Kıyı Karia Arkaik Seramiği: Karia Kaseleri ve Denizaşırı Dağılımları

Öz:

Bu çalışmanın konusunu oluşturan kaseler, Kıyı Karia yerleşim ve nekropollerinde tartışmasız en çok karşılaşılan vazo formudur. Son yıllarda sayısı artan kazı ve araştırma verileri bu kaselerin Kıyı Karia’nın etnik yapısını oluşturan Dor, Leleg ve Kar toplulukları arasında oldukça popüler olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Özellikle Leleg ve Kar yerleşimlerinde dikkat çeken buluntu yoğunluğu, kaselerin Karia Kasesi olarak isimlendirilme önerisine dayanak oluşturmuştur. Standart form ve bezeme özelliğini MÖ7.yüzyılın üçüncü çeyreğinde tamamlamış olan kaseler, form ve bezemede izlenen son derece yavaş değişimlerle, Klasik Dönem’in sonlarına kadar üretilmişlerdir. Olası üretim yerleri Knidos Yarımadası, Bybassos ve Keramos Körfezi kıyısında aranmalıdır. Antik kaynakların verdiği bilgiler doğrultusunda, Karialılar’ın Mısır ve Doğu Akdeniz’de, çoğu zaman paralı asker olarak bulunmalarını, Karia kaselerinin buluntu yerleri desteklemektedir.

ARCHAIC POTTERY OF COASTAL CARIA: CARIAN BOWL AND OVERSEAS DISTRIBUTION

Öz:

This paper aims to present the Carian Bowls, the most common ceramic form of Coastal Caria. There has been an increasing number of recent excavations and archaeological research pointing to the fact that these bowls were quite popular among Dorian, Lelegian and Carian populations of Coastal Caria. Striking quantity of the bowls spesifically in Carian and Lelegian settlements is the reason for suggesting a Carian origin and naming them as Carian Bowls. They seem to have been produced until the end of the Classical period after reaching the standart form and decorative scheme by the third quarter of 7th century BC with very slow changes recognized thereafter. Possible places of production should be sought at Knidian peninsula, Bybassos and along the shores of Keramos Gulf. The Carian presence in Egypt and Eastern Mediterranean mostly serving as mercenaries as mentioned by ancient literary texts is also supported by the distribution of Carian Bowls.
