The effect of Transabdominal Pelvic Hot Water Bag Application on The Perceived Pain of Hysterosalpingography

Öz:

Introduction: Hysterosalpingography (HSG) is one of the main diagnosticprocedures in infertility. The most common complaint during HSG is pain. Weinvestigated the effect of transabdominal Pelvic hot water bag application duringHSG.Methods: In this prospective randomised study, Group 1 patients (n: 53) weretreated with a hot water bottle at 41-44°C before the HSG procedure, Group 2(n:62) was the control group. Perceived pain during HSG was evaluated withvisual analog scale. We have detected that hot water bottle application lead tolower visual analog scale pain scores than the control group.Results: Expected and perceived pain scores of the study and the control groupswere found to be 7.26±2.22 – 3.11±1.81 vs 6.48±1.99 – 3.98±1.88p<0,001,respectively.Discussion: We conclude that 30 minutes long transabdominal hot water bottleapplication before HSG results in lower visual analog scale pain scores, at least bydistraction of the patient, if not by the direct relaxation or analgesic effect.

Öz:

Giriş: Histerosalpingografi(HSG), infertilite tanısında kullanılan başlıca tanı yöntemlerinden biridir. HSG sırasında en sık görülen şikayet ağrıdır. HSG sırasında Transabdominal Pelvik Sıcak Su Torbası uygulamasının etkisini araştırdık. Yöntem: Bu prospektif randomize çalışmada, Grup 1 hastalara (n: 53) HSG işlemi öncesinde 41-44 °C’de sıcak su torbasını transabdominal olarak uyguladık. Grup 2 (n: 62) ise kontrol grubu olarak planlandı. HSG sırasında görülen ağrı, VAS ile değerlendirildi. Sıcak su torbası uygulamasının, VAS üzerinde ağrı skorlarının kontrol grubuna göre daha düşük olduğunu tespit ettik. Bulgular: Beklenen ve algılanan ağrı skorları, çalışma grubu ve kontrol grubunda sırasıyla 7.26±2.22 – 3.11±1.81, 6.48±1.99 – 3.98±1.88 olarak bulundu. (p <0.001) Tartışma: Histerosalpingografi öncesinde, 30 dakika süre boyunca karın üzerine konulan sıcak su torbası uygulamasının, doğrudan rahatlama veya analjezik etki olmasa da, hastanın dikkatini dağıttığı ve VAS skorlarını düşürdüğüne karar verdik.
