Objective: To compare our functional endoscopicsinus surgery results with the literature that wereperformed to 100 patients who diagnosed as chronicrhinosinusal disease in our clinic.Methods: 100 patients who were diagnosed aschronic recurrent sinusitis (n=36), allergic-nonallergic nasal poliposis (n=24), middle turbinatepneumatisation (n=32) and maxillary retantion cyst(n=8) were enrolled into this study. 56 of thesepatients were male (%56) and 44 of them werefemale (%44). Bilateral functional endoscopic sinussurgery was performed to 65 % of the patients andunilateral FESS was performed to 35 %. Mean agewas 39 years and postoperative follow up periodwas 3-21 months (mean; 12 months). Age,preoperative subjective symptoms, allergic or nonallergic condition, anesthesia type, preoperativecomputed tomography findings, functionalendoscopic sinus surgery technique, operationcomplications, postoperative symptoms andpostoperative endoscopic examination signs wereused as parameters. Results: Success rates were assesed by the controlendoscopic examination findings and patients’symptoms. Full recovery was observed in 68patients where as partial improvements of symptoms was seen in 24 patients. Treatmentfailure was observed in 8 patients.Conclusion: Functional endoscopic sinus surgery isa surgery technique must be used in the treatmentof the chronic or recurrent sinusitis, sinceconfirming diagnosis truly, vision superiorityduring the surgery, high successful rates, havingmore reliable follow up period and less traumaticwhen compared with the classic technique.
