Concepts of " Afterlife"," Apotheosis " and " Consecratio " in antiquity

Öz:
People considering death in a frame of respect combined with fear started to create particular rules with the effect of various mystical beliefs. Among these, for some societies who believe in the immortality of soul, the tombs have been regarded as the 'lighthouse' of the soul after death and the peace of the soul in the afterlife became the primary issues. The beliefs comprised for the peace of the souls of patrons who work for the charity of public bring along with them the concepts like ancestral and ruler cults and the rituals for them. In some societies these rituals were organized for the deification, which is believed to be natural right of rulers who have already been considered in life as a god or as an image of the god on earth. In some cases the goal of these rituals that is deification, turnabout and the ruler's deified soul gets damned by the society in consequence of uncaring attitude in life. In these cases the immortal soul which is believed to be lived with gods in empyrean gets stuck in the depths of underworld, debarred from any kind of remembrance and the real death starts with this oblivion. In this paper, the concepts of'afterlife, 'apotheosis' and 'consecratio' will be studied in the lights of particular examples chosen from the Hellenistic and Roman Periods.
