Retinal vein occlusion and polymorphisms

Retinal vein occlusion is the most common retinal vascular disorder after diabetic retinopathy. It is a major ophthalmic problem with multifactorial etiology and due to serious comnsequences like permanent visual loss. Besides, due to limited treatment options it is an important issue to reveal the reasons that contribute to the formation of retinal occlusive disease. Genetic polymorphisms are associated with certain diseases in medicine and some ncrease the risk of developing the disease while some reduce it. Many genetic polymorphism studies have been conducted in search for the association of retinal vein occlusion. To understand the association between certain polymorphisms and retinal vein occlusion will be useful for the prevention of disease. In this review, we try to summarize the possible effects of polymor- phisms in conjunction with retinal vein occlusion.
