Students' Learning Difficulties in Biology: Reasons and Solutions

Öz:

Bu çalışma, sınıf öğretmenliği I. sınıf öğrencilerinin (N=I40) Canlılar Bilimi dersini almadan önce, lise döneminde aldıkları biyoloji konularındaki kavram zorluklarım ve bu zorlukların nedenlerini ortaya çıkarmak amacı ile yapılmıştır. Öğrencilere 52 biyoloji konusu listelenmiş ve sonuçlar, zor olarak algılanan ilk on konudan yedisinin genetik konusu ile ilgili olduğunu ortaya koymuştur. Bu kavram zorluklarının arkasında yatan nedenleri ortaya çıkarmak amacı ile 40 öğrenci ile de bire-bir görüşme yapılmıştır. Sonuçlar dil ve terminoloji, içerik ve zaman ayrımı, öğretmen ile ilgili faktörler, matematik tanımlar ve sayılar, birbirine benzeyen konuların karıştırılması gibi faktörlerin genetik konularının öğrenilmesinde zorluklara sebebiyet verdiğini göstermiştir. Benzer çalışmalarda ortaya çıkan farklılık ve ortak noktalar ve bu kavram zorluklarının çözüm yolları tartışılmıştır.
