Mathematics is a language that uses some symbols, a system that makes human think logically and ahelp to understand and improve the environment around us. Mathematics is a whole, not any of themso all of this point out that it is a mental but abstract system at the same time. No matter how abstractit is, mathematical knowledge will definitely have a field of application so it is necessary to besuccessful in math class in order to perform applications in this field. The main objective of thisresearch is to identify the studies carried out or to be carried out in order to enhance the success ofprimary school students in mathematics classes in accordance with the remarks of primary schoolteachers.The research is a case study of qualitative research approach which was conducted with seventeachers working in Trabzon, Maçka district and who were selected with random method. As a datacollecting tool, semi-structured interview that is often preferred in qualitative research method wasused in this study. In the cases where the answers to the questions are not clear enough, semistructured interviews were performed in order to bring flexibility to the research through newquestions. The first 5 of the 17 questions in semi-structured interview were prepared for obtainingpreliminary information about teachers, contributing to the research, the five of whom were femaleand the two of whom were male. All the participants in the research consisted of classroom teacherswho had an experience ranging from 10 to 32 years in their professional career. The six of the teacherswere graduated from faculty of Education and one of them was a graduate of academy. The 12 of thesemi-structured interview questions were prepared for getting ideas of the teachers on mathematicsclasses and obtaining data about the problems encountered by teachers and the way of solution, thestudies done by teachers to improve student's performance, teaching methods and techniquesparticular to mathematics classes. The studies performed or to be performed by teachers, parents,school administration or education system so as to increase the achievement of the student.The data obtained by semi-structured interview was analyzed descriptively and some quotations werereferred to reflect the views of the participants directly. Face to face interviews with teachers wererecorded and analyzed by one of the researchers and then written down. Both of the researchersanalyzed the data separately by electing the same ones directly, a common conclusion was reached fordifferent ones after discuss in detail. Then the codes and the themes related were created, the results ofthe analysis were presented through a table and the quotations attained by means of interview recordswere directly mentioned.The findings of the research related to the problems encountered by teachers in Math classes mostlypointed out that the students hold negative attitudes and that's why they didn't think of abstract ortransfer their knowledge to daily life, they come to classes without any preparation, they haddifficulties in reading comprehension and book activities were insufficient for them. The leastaddressed finding was that the students didn't reason or they were too slow for mathematicaloperations. It was seen that the teachers, as a solution to the problems, most often performedenjoyable activities, organized additional studies for low-level students and made the classes muchmore concrete. The least referred findings were that the teachers gave extensive homework, thoughtmathematics in different lessons, dealt with the students individually, met with student's parent, andgave them the opportunity for learning through experience. The teachers also started that they couldmainly do revisions and funny activities, they could use different sources at least in terms of thestudies that could be performed for increasing the success of the students. As teaching methods andtechnique, drama, lecture method, problem solving, and play, the least favored ones were projectbasedlearning multiple intelligence theory, brainstorming, case study and cooperative learningapproach. Teachers emphasized that parents mostly helped the students in their tasks and boughtadditional sources for increasing the success but they rarely called the teachers for any support or theygave advice to the students in accordance with studying or they did nothing for the students. Teachersalso indicated that families primarily could do supportive activities and let the students takeresponsibilities in terms of their life, they shouldn't reflect their fear of mathematics to their children,they should always be in touch with the teachers and refer to the importance of the mathematics, theycould reward the students when needed and help them to overcome their fears. It was stated by theteachers that the students basically used mathematics to solve the problems they encountered in reallife situations, to do homework and benefit from different sources in order to improve theirmathematics success. Teachers mostly pointed out that students should have revisions, get help fromtheir families and friends when they need, the least referred findings were that the students should bein touch with their teachers, listen to them carefully and attend a course. With regard to the studiescarried out by school administration to improve the success of the students, teachers mainly putemphasis on supplying equipment, opening courses and organizing different social activities, on theother hand the least mentioned finding was to give warning in respect of following curriculum bymeans of test.
