YABANCI ÖĞRENCİLERE KARŞI TUTUM VE DAVRANIŞSAL EĞILIMLER: ULUSAL KIMLIKLER VE SOSYAL BASKINLIK YÖNELIMININ YORDAYICI ROLÜ

Öz:

Bu çalışmanın amacı Türkiye’deki yabancı uyruklu öğrencilere karşı tutum ve davranışsal eğilimleri, sosyal kimlik ve sosyal baskınlık kuramları açısından incelemektir. Çalışmanın örneklemi 151 Türk öğrenciden oluşmaktadır (93 Kadın, 58 Erkek, Ort. Yaş = 21.56, SS = 2.21). Katılımcılar, demografik form, ulusal kimlikle özdeşleşme ölçeği, sosyal baskınlık yönelimi ölçeği, dış gruba yönelik tutumlar ve davranışsal eğilimler ölçekleri içeren very toplama araçlarını online olarak doldurmuşlardır. Bulgular, ulusal kimlikle özdeşleşmenin tutumları olumlu yönde yordadığını, ancak sosyal baskınlık yöneliminin iki bağımlı değişkenin de anlamlı bir yordayıcısı olmadığını göstermiştir. Bunun yanında, ulusal kimlik ile dış gruba yönelik tutum ve davranışsal eğilimler arasındaki ilişki sosyal baskınlık yönelimi tarafından düzenlenmektedir. Buna göre, ulusal kimlik ile bağımlı değişkenler arasındaki ilişki yanlızca sosyal baskınlık eğilimi yüksek olan kişiler arasında olumsuzdur. Bulgular yabancı öğrencilere yönelik tutum ve davranışların yordanmasında ulusal kimliklerin rolünün sosyal baskınlık yönelimine bağımlı olarak değişebileceğini göstermektedir.

ATTITUDES AND BEHAVIORAL TENDENCIES TOWARDS FOREIGN STUDENTS: THE PREDICTIVE ROLE OF NATIONAL IDENTITY AND SOCIAL DOMINANCE ORIENTATION

Öz:

The aim of this study was to investigate attitudes and behavioral tendencies toward foreign students in Turkey in the light of social identity and social dominance theories. The sample of the study included 151 Turkish students (93 women, 53 men, Mean Age = 21.56, SD = 2.21). Participants filled out online questionnaires which included the demographic form, national identity scale, social dominance orientation scale, attitudes toward outgroups and behavioral tendencies scales. Findings showed that identification with national identity predicted attitudes positively, while social dominance orientation did not significantly predict the two dependent variables. Besides, the relationship between national identities and attitudes toward the outgroup and behavioral tendencies were moderated by social dominance orientation such that the relationships between national identities and dependent variables were negative only among people with high levels of social dominance orientation. Findings imply that the predictive role of national identification on outgroup attitudes and behaviors is contingent upon social dominance orientation levels
