THE READING SKILL PREDICTION LEVELS OF THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT THE TURKISH STUDENTS HAVE AT HOME ACCORDING TO 2015 PISA RESULTS

Öz:
Dünyanın en kapsamlı eğitim araştırmalarından biri olarak kabul edilen Uluslararası Öğrenci Değerlendirme Programı (Programme for International Student Assessment-PISA), İktisadi İşbirliği ve Kalkınma Teşkilatı (OECD) tarafından 2000 yılından itibaren her 3 yılda bir OECD üyesi ülkeler ile katılımcı ülkelerde uygulanmaktadır. PISA temelde okuma becerisi, matematik ve fen başarısını ölçmekte ve öğrencilere ilişkin çeşitli değişkenleri ele alarak sonuçları ilan etmektedir. Bu sonuçlara göre ülkeler eğitim politikalarına yön verebilmektedir. Bu çalışma ile sonuçları henüz yayınlanmış PISA verilerine göre Türk öğrencilerin evde sahip oldukları olanakların okuma becerilerinin yordayıcısı olup olmadığı üzerinde durulmuştur. Yapısal eşitlik modellemesi analizi yapılan bu çalışmada evde sahip olunan olanakların okuma becerisinin anlamlı bir yordayıcısı olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır

Öz:
Programme for International Student Assessment-PISA), considered one of the most comprehensive educational researches in the World, has been applied in the OECD member countries and the participating countries by Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) once in every 3 years since 2000. PISA assesses mainly reading skill, Mathematics and Science achievement, and announces the results considering various variables. Countries are able to direct their educational policies in accordance with these results. The purpose of this study is to determine whether the opportunities that the Turkish students have at home predict their reading skills according to the recently published PISA data. In the study, in which structural equation modelling analysis was conducted, it is concluded that the opportunities that the Turkish students have at home significantly predict their reading skills
