ABS TRACT Objective: In this study the relationship between demographic variables such as gender, age, marital status, educational status, income and current prosthetic status, type of prostheses was investigated. Material and Methods: Data regarding gender, age, marital status, education degree, income, the number and location of current fixed and/or removable prostheses of 440 patients were recorded. Patients were divided into two groups with respect to their gender and marital status; four groups with respect to age and educational status and five groups regarding their income. Data was analysed with Pearson chi-square test using SPSS 15.0 statistical package program. Results: Although all kinds of dental prostheses were more frequent in women, there were no statistically significant difference between genders. The number of patients that use prosthesis increases with age. Patients in 41-60 age group had more number of prosthesis in all types. While 17-30 age group of patients mostly had fixed prosthesis, as age and tooth loss increased, number of removable dentures used increased. All prosthesis types were more frequent in married patients compared to single ones. Fixed partial dentures were significantly higher in high school graduated and university degreed patients compared to lower education levels. The distribution of prosthesis usage was not related with income. Conclusion: While the difference between age groups, marital status, education levels and type of prosthesis were statistically significant, the frequency and distribution of current prosthesis types with respect to gender and income were not different.
