Contribution of prostate-specific antigen density in the prediction of prostate cancer: Does prostate volume matter?
Öz: Aims: We aimed to evaluate whether there is a specific subgroupof patients who benefit most from PSAD screening accordingto their prostate volume.Methods: Transrectal ultrasound guided prostate biopsy performedpatients were stratified in five groups according to theirprostate size. PSAD values were compared between groups,and the diagnostic accuracy of PSAD was evaluated for differentprostate volumes.Results: Of 326 patients 98 (30.0%) had pCa. While total PSA andPSAD between pCa(+) and (-) patients were significantly higherin group 1,2 and 3, the differences was not significant in group4 and 5. The highest AUC value was achieved for group 3 andthe lowest for group 5. The optimal cutoff values were differentbetween groups.Conclusions: Demonstrating the greatest diagnostic accuracyof PSAD in prostates ≥60 and <80 cc makes an invaluable contributionto the current literature and would be a reference pointfor further studies.
