Teachers’ Opinions on Primary and Secondary School Students’ Reading Comprehension Levels
Öz: The aim of this research is detect teachers’ opinions on primary-secondary school students’ reading comprehension levels. This study was employed with interview method, which is one of qualitative research methods. Working group consist of 22 teachers, who work in a primary school in Kocaeli at second term of 2016-2017 academic year. The conclusion of the study is as below: 1. Almost all of the teachers have the opinion that students’ reading comprehension levels are insufficient. 2. All of the teachers express that students have difficulty in comprehending and answering questions from long texts according to their observations as an indicator of reading comprehension levels. 3. Most of the teachers express that students’ insufficient reading habit and families’ lack of interest are the reasons of students’ insufficient reading comprehension levels. 4. It is detected that almost all of the teachers do activities to improve students reading comprehension levels and the most popular activity of them is reading time in their own lessons. 5. Most of the teachers suggest that discussion method should be used in teaching-learning process, attractive and enjoyable reading activities suitable for all lessons should be done to improve students’ reading comprehension levels and encourage students to read.

İlkokul ve Ortaokul Öğrencilerinin Okuduğunu Anlama Düzeylerine Yönelik Öğretmen Görüşleri
Öz: Bu araştırmanın amacı, ilkokul-ortaokul öğrencilerinin okuduğunu anlama düzeylerine yönelik öğretmen görüşlerinin belirlemektir. Araştırma, nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden görüşme tekniği ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, 2016-2017 eğitim-öğretim yılı ikinci yarıyılında Kocaeli ili merkez ilçesinde bulunan bir ilkokul ve ortaokulda da görev yapan 22 öğretmen oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada ulaşılan sonuçlar şöyledir: 1. Öğretmenlerin neredeyse tamamı öğrencilerin okuduklarını anlama düzeylerinin yetersiz olduğu görüşündedir. 2. Öğretmenlerin tamamı öğrencilerin okuduğunu anlama düzeylerinin göstergesi olarak öğrencilerin uzun metinlerden oluşan soruları anlama ve cevaplamada zorluk yaşadıklarını gözlemlediklerini belirtmiştir. 3. Öğretmenlerin çoğunluğu, öğrencilerin yeterli düzeyde kitap okuma alışkanlığı olmadığı için ve ailelerin ilgisizliğinden öğrencilerin okuduğunu anlamada güçlük çektiklerini ifade etmiştir. 4. Öğretmenlerin neredeyse tamamının öğrencilerin okuduğunu anlama düzeylerini geliştirmek için etkinlikler yaptıkları ve bu etkinliklerin daha çok okuma saati düzenleme şeklinde olduğu belirlenmiştir. 5. Öğretmenlerin büyük bir kısmı tarafından öğrencilerde okuduğunu anlama düzeylerinin geliştirilmesi için, her derse uygun ilgi çekici konularda okuma etkinliklerinin yapılması ve öğrencilerin kitap okumaya özendirilmeleri önerilmiştir.
