Investigation of the role of interleukin-1 receptor antagonist VNTR variant on the Behçet’s disease
Öz: Objective: Behçet’s disease (BD), a chronic multisystem inflammatory disorder, is mainly characterizedby relapsing periods of a wide range of clinical symptoms. Several cytokine genes may play importantroles in the pathogenesis of BD. Therefore, interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1Ra) gene 86bp variablenumber tandem repeat (VNTR) variant was investigated in patients with BD in a Turkish population.Methods: One hundred nine patients (60 females, 49 males; the mean age±standard deviation [SD]was 36.56±9.571 years) with BD and one hundred healthy individuals (54 females, 46 males; the meanage±SD was 36.64±2.294 years) were examined in the study. For genotyping, polymerase chain re-action-restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis was employed. Data were analyzed usingStatistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) 22.0 (IBM Corp.; Armonk, NY, USA) (p<0.05)Results: The genotype distribution and allele frequencies of the IL-1Ra VNTR variant did not differsignificantly between the patients and the controls (p>0.05). The frequency of the a1/a1, a1/a2 geno-types and a1, a2 alleles were the most common both in patients and healthy controls (p=0.37, p=0.26,and p=0.53, respectively). Also, no statistically significant difference was found between the IL-1RaVNTR variant genotypes and clinical characteristics (p>0.05).Conclusion: The results of this study do not support an association between the IL-1Ra VNTR variantand the risk of BD in a Turkish population. However, further studies of this variant with larger samplesizes and different ethnicities are required for confirmation.

ASSET QUALITY AND PROFITABILITY ANALYSIS OF DEPOSIT BANKS IN TURKISH BANKING SYSTEM
Öz: Banks’ activities, regulations in the banking system and economic conditions have impact on banks’ performance. The year of the 2000s in the Turkish banking system is considered as a period to see structural changes and this period has been discussed in research studies. The aim of this study is to analyze asset quality and profitability of deposit banks operating in the Turkish banking system. In this study a performance evaluation has been carried out over the time span from 2003 to 2015 by using the ratio analysis. In the early years of the selected period, the credit to asset and deposit ratios have increased. These ratios having decreased due to the effects of global crisis has again increased in the following years. The ratio of nonperforming credit to the total credit has fallen overall for the selected period. The effect of global crisis has been felt on nonperforming credit ratio and ratio has risen. Ratio has fallen in 2010, then it has not notably changed up to 2015. Return on assets, return on equity and net interest margin in the whole deposit banks have fluctuated in the early years of selected period. The global crisis has led to a general decline in the profitability. The increasing profitability in 2009 has decreased in the later years.

TÜRK BANKACILIK SİSTEMİNDE MEVDUAT BANKALARININ AKTİF KALİTESİ VE KÂRLILIK ANALİZİ
Öz: Bankaların faaliyetleri, bankacılık sistemine ilişkin düzenlemeler veekonominin içinde bulunduğu durum bankaların performansını etkilemektedir.Türk bankacılık sistemi için 2000’li yıllar bu anlamda değişimleringözlemlenebileceği bir dönem olup araştırmalarda ele alınmaktadır. Buçalışmanın amacı Türk bankacılık sisteminde faaliyet gösteren mevduatbankalarının, aktif kalitesi ve kârlılığını analiz etmektir. Bu doğrultuda 2003-2016 döneminde oran analizi yapılarak durum değerlendirmesindebulunulmuştur.Kredilerin aktiflere ve mevduata oranı ele alınan dönemin ilk yıllarındaartmış, küresel krizin etkisiyle azalan oranlar, ilerleyen yıllarda tekrar artışsergilemiştir. Takipteki kredilerin kredi toplamına oranında dönem boyuncaazalış söz konudur. Küresel krizin etkisi takipteki kredi oranında da hissedilmiş,oran artmıştır. 2010 yılında ise azalan oran için 2016’ya kadar büyük birdeğişiklik söz konusu olmamıştır. Mevduat bankaları toplamının aktif veözkaynak kârlılığı ile net faiz marjı ele alınan dönemin ilk yıllarında dalgalı birseyir izlemiştir. Küresel kriz, kârlılık oranlarını da etkileyerek azalmasına nedenolmuştur. 2009 yılında ise artan kârlılık, devam eden süreçte azalmıştır.
