Investigation of Peganum harmala L. (Üzerlik) fruits sold in the market from the view of pharmaceutical botany

Öz:
Peganum harmala L. (üzerlik; Nitrariaceae) is well-known herb amongst the public, which is also used to treatvarious health problems besides the widespread using of as a fumigant. In this study, the traditional use, chemicalcomposition and biological effects of this plant, have been compiled as a monograph in the light of previous studies inour country and around the World. The samples of P. harmala sold under the name of "üzerlik" on the market werepurchased from various districts of Turkey, as well as the samples collected from nature were used as a standard. For thispurpose, 10 samples were purchased from Ankara, Gaziantep and Van markets. In addition, P. harmala samples collectedfrom nature in Haymana (Ankara) were used as standard drugs. Morphological and anatomical structures of powdereddrug samples were investigated to determine whether the samples were correctly obtained and whether they were the rightdrugs. In addition, the intended use of these herbal drugs have been determined and the sales forms were evaluated interms of public health.

Piyasada satılan Peganum harmala L. (Üzerlik) meyvelerinin farmasötik botanik açısından incelenmesi

Öz:
Peganum harmala L. (üzerlik; Nitrariaceae), tütsü olarak yaygın kullanımı dışında çeşitli sağlık sorunlarını tedavi etmek için de kullanılan, halk arasında iyi bilinen bir bitkidir. Bu çalışmada, türün ülkemizde ve dünyadaki geleneksel kullanılışı, kimyasal bileşimi ve biyolojik etkileri daha önce yapılan çalışmalar ışığında monograf şeklinde derlenmiştir. Piyasada “üzerlik” adı altında satılan P. harmala örnekleri çeşitli illerimizden satın alınmış, doğadan topladığımız örnekler ise standart olarak kullanılmıştır. Bu amaçla Ankara, Gaziantep ve Van piyasasından 10 numune satın alınmıştır. Ayrıca Haymana (Ankara)’da doğadan toplanan P. harmala örnekleri standart drog olarak kullanılmıştır. Satışı yapılan numunelerin doğru bitkiden elde edilip edilmediği ve doğru drog olup olmadığı öncelikli olarak morfolojik ve toz droğun karakteristik özellikleri yönünden anatomik çalışmalarla incelenmiştir. Ayrıca satışa sunulan bu drogların kullanım amaçlarının belirlenmesi ve halk sağlığı açısından uygun şartlarda tüketiciye sunulup sunulmadığı değerlendirilmiştir.
