A Schiff Base Sensor Selective to Anions, Biological Activity, and Spectral Studies

Öz:
In this study, synthesis, characterization, anion sensor properties, and DNA binding of abenzothiazole-based Schiff base 4-bromo-2-((6-methoxybenzo[d]thiazol-2-ylimino)methyl)phenol havebeen investigated. The structure of the Schiff base was revealed with elemental analysis and spectroscopicmethods. The colorimetric and fluorescent anion sensor properties of the Schiff base in DMSO wereinvestigated by adding an equivalent amount of anions. In this context, the solution containing Schiff basehad a color change after the addition of $F-$, C$N-$, Ac$O-$, H2PO$4-$ and O$H-$ anions, while the color change wasnot observed with the addition of B$r-$, $I-$, SC$N-$, Cl$O4-$ and HS$O4-$ anions. The anion-binding power of thecompound was found to be $F-$>O$H-$>Ac$O-$>CN->$H2$P$O4-$ using UV-Vis spectrophotometry, respectively. Theantimicrobial activity of the compound was investigated against some microorganisms. The compoundshowed activity against bacteria and yeast. Schiff base showed a similar effect against both bacteria andyeast. Interactions between the compound and CT-DNA were studied with UV-Vis spectra. The UV-Visexperiment results confirm that the Schiff base binds to CT-DNA in an intercalative mode. The compounddid not show any cleavage effect on SC DNA as hydrolytic and oxidative.
