Öz:

Kolophon Metroon’u birçok açıdan dikkat çekmektedir. Batı Anadolu’nun en büyük Kybele-Meter kutsal alanı unvanına adaydır. Alan birden fazla, dik yamaçlı terasa yayılmaktadır ve çoğu Kybele kutsal alanlarında görmeye alışık olduğumuzun aksine, kentin sınırlarının içerisine konumlandırılmıştır. Yakınında idari ve ticaret merkezi olan agora bulunmaktadır. Bu konum, Atina agorasındaki Metroon’u akla getirmektedir. Her ikisi de arşiv işlevi görmüştür. Kolophon Metroonu’nun ana terasında, yan yana dizilmiş küçük mekânlar buranın ayrıca depo işlevi gördüğünü de göstermektedir; dolayısıyla Kurul Kalesi’ndeki Kybele kutsal alanı da benzer bir örnek olarak gösterilebilir. Bunun yanı sıra, eski kazı buluntularından, Metroon’da tekstil üretildiği anlaşılmaktadır. Yani bu durum, kutsal alanın sadece dinsel değil, ayrıca kapsamlı ekonomik faaliyetlerin de gerçekleştirildiği birden fazla işlevi bulunduğunun kanıtıdır.

Öz:

The Metroon at Kolophon has some remarkable aspects. It is one of the largest Kybele- Meter sanctuary of West Anatolia. Spread- on terrasses on a steep slope, it is located within the city boundaries, very near to the administrative and economic centre, the agora. Within this location, it resembles the Metroon on the agora in Athens. Both Metroa served as town archives. Besides this, the Metroon at Kolophon probably had the function as a depot as can be supposed due to the small chambers lined up side by side on the main terrasse. For example, the Kybele sanctuary at Kurul Kalesi had the same task. In addition to all these features, findings of the old excavations let us suppose that the Metroon was very likely the place of textile production for the city. This means that this sancturay had not only religious but also commercial functions.
