The Role of Heterodox Kurdish Belief in the Period of Rivalry between Sultan SelimI and Shah Ismail I: Based on the Selimshahname ofIdris-i Bitlisi
Öz: This article focuses on the role of the Kurds in the Safavid State during its establishment and restructuring period and aims to describe the influence of the Kurds on Shah Ismail Safavi ’s achievements and acquisition of power. The Ottomans reacted in a serious and multi-faceted way to the actively ideological and strategic role and assistance of the Kurds as regards Shah Ismail’s ascension to the throne. This period also inaugurates the beginning of a history of the Kurds who remained in the territories of the Ottoman State. Of the sources on this period, the Selimshahname of İdris-i Bitlisi is undoubtedly the most important.
