This study has been carried out to determine the relation of secondary school students’ attitude towards reading with different variables. The research has been conducted according to descriptive relational screening model which is one of the quantitative research designs. The study group of the research consisted of a total of 384 students who were 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students in the academic year of 2017-2018 at a secondary school in the district of Beykoz in the province of İstanbul. The quantitative data of the research have been obtained through “Personal Information Forms” and “Reading Attitude Scale for Secondary Students”. In the analysis of the data, t test, oneway variance analysis and Scheffe test have been used. The study scrutinises whether there is a relation between the secondary school students’ attitude towards reading and age, gender, the socio-economic level of the family, daily reading time, daily internet using time, and daily television watching time or not; and investigates how it is related with the condition whether weekly reading hours are applied in their school or not and the genre they prefer to read. As a result of the research, the reading attitude scale scores of the students aged 9-10 years have been observed to be higher compared to the students aged 11-12 years and 13-14 years in the secondary school where the study has been carried out. Girl students’ attitude towards reading is more positive compared to the boy students’. It has been found out that the students’ attitude towards reading improves as daily reading time increases. The relation between internet using time and television watching time and the attitude towards reading is in negative direction. In the light of these results, some suggestions have been made to improve secondary school students’ attitude towards reading.
