7-15 YAŞ ARASI ÇOCUKLARDA DENTAL ANKSİYETE SIKLIĞI VE EBEVEYNLERİN ANKSİYETESİ İLE İLİŞKİSİ

Öz:
Bu çalışmanın amacı, okul çağındaki çocuklar arasındaki dental anksiyete düzeyini değerlendirmek ve çocuklarındental anksiyetesini ebeveynleri ile karşılaştırmaktır. Toplam 304 çocuk ve ebeveynleri çalışmaya dahil edilmiştir.Çocukların yaşı 7-15 arasında değişmektedir. Dental muayene yapılmadan önce her çocuktan bağımsız olarakÇocuk Dental Anksiyete Ölçeği (CFSS-DS) anketini doldurması istenmiştir. Ebeveynler arasında dentalanksiyeteyi değerlendirmek için dental anksiyeteyi beş seviyede kategorize eden, Modifiye Dental AnksiyeteÖlçeğinin (MDAS) Türkçe versiyonu kullanılmıştır. Yaş, eğitim düzeyi ve ebeveynlerin mesleki durumu gibidemografik veriler kaydedilmiştir. Muayene edilen 304 çocuğun (176 kız, 128 erkek) 77’sinde (%25,3) (CFSSDS ≥ 38) dental anksiyete saptanmıştır. Çocukların anksiyete seviyeleri ile cinsiyetleri ve yaşları arasında ilişkitespit edilememiştir. Ebeveynlerin 42'sinde (%13,9) dental anksiyete olduğu bulunmuştur. Ebeveyn MDASskorları ve CFSS-DS ile ölçülen çocuk dental anksiyetesi arasında pozitif korelasyon tespit edilmiştir (r = 0.410,p <0.05). Bu bulguların, çocukların dental anksiyetesini önleyecek veya hafifletecek müdahalelerin tasarlanmasınayardımcı olabileceği düşünülmektedir. Böylece ebeveynlerin dental anksiyetesi azaltılarak, çocukların dentalanksiyetesi de azaltılabilir veya önlenebilir.

Frequency of Dental Anxiety in Children between the Ages of 7-15 and Relationship with the Anxiety of the Parents

Öz:
The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of dental anxiety among schoolchildren and to compare children’s dental anxiety with their parents. A total of 304 children and their parents were recruited for the study. The children’s age ranged from 7-15 years. Each child was asked to independently complete a Children’s Fear Survey Schedule – Dental Subscale (CFSS-DS) questionnaire before performing a dental examination. The Turkish version of the Modified Dental Anxiety Inventory (MDAS), which categorizes dental anxiety at five levels, was used to evaluate dental anxiety among parents. Demographic details such as age, educational level, and parents’ occupational status were also recorded. Of the 304 children (176 girls, 128 boys) examined, dental anxiety was identified in 77 (%25,3) children (CFSS-DS ≥ 38). There were no correlations between children’s anxiety levels and their gender and age. All of the parents answered the questionnaire and 42 (%13,9) of them had dental anxiety. Parental MDAS scores had positive correlation with child dental anxiety measured with CFSS-DS (r=0.410, p<0.05). These findings may help to devise interventions that will prevent or alleviate dental anxiety of children. The dental anxiety of children can also be reduced or prevented by reducing the dental anxiety of parents.
