Examining the 5-8 th Grade Mathematics Curriculum in terms of Statistical Literacy
The aim of the study is to examine 5-8 th grade mathematics curriculum in terms of the statistical literacy. The data of the study was collected by document analysis. Objectives of the statistics for 5-8 th grade mathematics curriculum by MoE in 2013-2018 were examined. In this analysis, it is aimed to examine that how statistical literacy emerges in the statement and instructional explanations of the objectives. Data of the study was analyzed through the aspects which are important and necessary to emerge statistical literacy by the help of the literature. In the extent of the statistics learning field, students are expected to pose a research question, collect, analyze and represent data, and to interpret based on these representations. The results of the study showed that statistical literacy emerges around statistical process component and it’s aspects in 5-8 th grade mathematics curriculum. Thus, it is suggested to design learning environments for students to be able to experience statistical process as a whole. Also, it is suggested to design environments not only statistical process and basic concepts components but also reasoning and context components.
