The Research of the Social Workers' Mobbing Perceptions (Psychological Violence at Work) and Burnout: The Example of Istanbul

Öz:

bjective: This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between the level of mobbing (psychological violence at work) perceived by social workers and burnout.Material and Methods: The study was cross-sectional, and a quantitative research method was used. The sample included 150 social workers working in Istanbul. To collect data, the data collection form was used, which included the general information form for introducing the individuals in the first section, the mobbing scale in the second section, and the burnout scale in the third section.Results: There was a statistically significant and positive (r=0.483) moderate relationship between the mobbing total and burnout total variables (p<0.01). It was observed that increasing 1 unit of the work and career-related barriers score would increase the burnout total score (β=0.49), 1 unit increase in the commitment to work score would decrease the burnout total score (β=−0.18), and 1 unit increase in the relationship with colleagues score would increase the burnout total score (β=0.20) (p<0.05). In addition, it was found that the levels of mobbing and burnout perceived by the social workers differ significantly according to some demographic variables.Conclusion: According to the findings of this study, it was thought that mobbing predicted burnout, but a detailed research should be conducted on the causality of this relationship. In contrast, it was concluded that it would be important to ensure gender equality in the profession and to take measures in the organizational context related to mobbing and burnout in the institutions/organizations where social workers work.

Öz:

Amaç: Bu araştırma, sosyal hizmet uzmanlarının algıladıkları mobbing (iş yerinde psikolojik şiddet) düzeyi ile tükenmişlik arasındaki ilişkinin araştırılması amacıyla yapılmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Araştırma kesitsel tiptedir ve nicel araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Örneklemi İstanbul ilinde çalışan 150 sosyal hizmet uzmanı oluşturmaktadır. Veri toplamak için birinci bölümünde Bireyleri Tanıtıcı Genel Bilgiler Formu, ikinci bölümünde “Mobbing Ölçeği” ve üçüncü bölümünde “Tükenmişlik Ölçeği” bulunan Veri Toplama Formu kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Mobbing Toplam ile Tükenmişlik Toplam değişkenleri arasında istatistiksel açıdan anlamlı ve pozitif yönde (r=0,483) orta düzeyde bir ilişki olduğu görülmüştür (p<0,01). İş ve Kariyer ile İlgili Engellemeler puanının bir birim artmasının Tükenmişlik Toplam puanını (β=0,49) arttıra- cağı, İşe Bağlılık puanının bir birim artmasının Tükenmişlik Toplam puanını (β=-0,18) azaltacağı ve İş Arkadaşları ile İlişkiler puanının bir birim artmasının Tükenmişlik Toplam puanını (β=0,20) arttıracağı görülmüştür (p<0,05). Ayrıca, sosyal hizmet uzmanlarının algıladıkları mobbing ve tükenmişlik düzeylerinin bazı demografik değişkenlere göre istatistiksel açıdan anlamlı şekilde farklılaştığı bulunmuştur. Sonuç: Araştırma bulgularına göre, mobbingin tükenmişliği yordadığı ancak bu ilişkinin nedenselliğine dair detaylı araştırmaların yapılması gerektiği düşünülmüştür. Diğer yandan, meslekte cinsiyet eşitliğinin sağlanmasının ve sosyal hizmet uzmanlarının çalıştıkları kurum/kuruluşların mobbing ve tükenmişlikle ilgili örgütsel bağlamda önlemler almalarının önemli olacağı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
