GREEN INNOVATION IN PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT: CONTENT ANALYSIS OF ARTICLES PUBLISHED IN (S)SCI JOURNALS

Öz:
Due to global warming and climate change, it has become inevitable for businesses to develop innovative methods for the sustainable and effective use of natural resources. To deal with this emergency, which affects the future of the world, is the common responsibility of all countries, not just businesses. The dizzying development of industrialization globally in the last century can be expressed as one of the most important factors that cause the acceleration of global warming by increasing greenhouse gas emissions. The majority of enterprises do not use natural resources with sustainable methods and produce wastes that cause environmental pollution as an outcome of their production. For this reason, it is significant to examine the issue of green innovation in production management. This research aims to reveal the current issues in the field of green innovation in production management over time. For this purpose, the articles published in the (Social) Science Citation Index [(S)SCI] journals were examined and the issues, changes, and trends that are likely to affect the policies and management strategies developed by industrial companies and institutions were determined. The reason why the articles published in (S)SCI journals were chosen as the sample of the research is that these journals keep the pulse of current literature and present new ideas about global issues. In this research, a content analysis was conducted to determine the issues related to green innovation in the articles dealing with production management issues in the 2018-2020 period. According to the findings of the research, China causes the most greenhouse gas emissions in the world, and to the content analysis result, also most research on green innovation has been carried out by China. The most researched current topics in the journals within the scope of (S)SCI in the 2018-2020 period were respectively “green technology innovation”, “environmental regulations and government subsidies” and “supply chain management”. This study contributes to researchers and managers by answering the question of “what are the current concepts and methods of greeninnovation in production management?”, and by providing insights into the literature, industry sector, and policymakers.
