Bir Uzmanlık Alanı Olarak Polis Psikolojisi

Öz:
Polislik, birey üzerinde önemli fizyolojik ve psikolojik sorunlara yol açacak boyutta bir stres yükü yaratan mesleklerin ilk sıralarında yer almaktadır. Bununla birlikte polis uygulamalarının toplumun temel güvenlik, sosyal adalet ve insan hakları alanlarındaki algılarını etkiliyor olması; polis psikolojisini yalnız bireysel değil, toplum psikolojisi ve kamu güvenliği açısından da önemli bir olgu haline getirmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı günümüze kadar dünyada polis psikolojisi konusunda gerçekleştirilen bilimsel araştırmaları gözden geçirip ortak bulgulardan yola çıkarak yapılan değerlendirme ile konunun emniyet teşkilatı, kolluk personeli ve iç güvenlik açısından önemine dikkat çekmek ve Türkiye’de bir uzmanlık alanı olarak polis psikolojisinin gelişmesine öncülük etmektir. Bu amaçla ve geniş bir alan olması nedeniyle çalışmanın çerçevesi polislerde iş stresi, iş doyumu ve tükenmişlik, çalışma saatleri ve uyku sorunu, aile ve ilişki sorunları ve polis intiharları konuları ile sınırlandırılmıştır. Bu çalışma, Türkiye’de bir uzmanlık alanı olarak polis psikolojisi konusunda yapılmış ilk araştırma olması açısından önem taşımaktadır.

Police Psychology as a Field of Expertise

Öz:
Policing is at the top of the professions that create a stress burden on the individual, causing significant physiological and psychological problems. Moreover, the fact that police practices affect the perceptions of the society in the areas of basic security, social justice and human rights; makes police psychology an important phenomenon not only in terms of individual but also in terms of community psychology and public safety. The aim of this study is to review the scientific researches carried out on police psychology in the world and draw attention to the importance of the issue in terms of law enforcement agencies and internal security based on the evaluation of common findings and to lead the development of police psychology as a field of expertise in Turkey. Because of its wide scope, the framework of the research was limited to the subjects of job stress, job satisfaction and burnout, working hours and sleep problems, family and relationship problems and police suicides.
