The Effect of Digital Storytelling (DST) on Academic Achievement inForeign Language Teaching

Öz:
ın this study, it is aimed to determine the effect of Digital Storytelling (DST) onacademic achievement in foreign language course (English) at the 6th grade level ofsecondary school. For this purpose, the study was carried out with experimentaldesign, which involves use of pretest and posttest with control group. The study wascarried out in a public school with 61 sixth grade students in the academic year of2018-2019 in Central Anatolian Region. In the study, six “Digital Stories” and “ForeignLanguage Achievement Test” were used as data collection tools. Pretest was applied tothe study groups before teaching process. During the 12 weeks of the teaching process,lessons were conducted using the DST method in the experimental group whereasteaching methods and techniques prescribed by the current curriculum in the controlgroup. Posttest applied to both groups after teaching process. The data were analyzedin a suitable statistical program. Mann Whitney U and Wilcoxon Signed Rank Testanalysis were used for study purposes. Based on the analysis and evaluations, it isconcluded that DST has a positive effect on academic achievement in foreign languagecourse at the 6th grade level at secondary school.

Yabancı Dil Öğretiminde Dijital Hikâye Anlatımının (DHA) Akademik Başarıya Etkisi

Öz:
Bu çalışmada Dijital Hikâye Anlatımının (DHA) Ortaokul 6. sınıf seviyesinde yabancı dildersindeki (İngilizce) akademik başarıyı ne düzeyde etkilediğini belirlemek amaçlanmıştır.Bu doğrultuda nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden deneysel araştırma modeli, araştırma deseniolarak ise öntest sontest gruplu deneysel desen kullanılmıştır. Araştırma 2018-2019 Eğitim- Öğretim yılında İç Anadolu Bölgesinde bir devlet okulunda 6. sınıf öğrencileri ilegerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmada veri toplama araçları olarak altı adet “Dijital Hikâye” ve“Yabancı Dil Başarı Testi” kullanılmıştır. 12 hafta devam eden öğretim sürecinde deneygrubunda İngilizce derslerinde dijital hikâyeler kullanılarak DHA yöntemi ile ders işlenmiş,hikâyelerin derste işlenmesinden sonra hikâyelerle ilgili etkinlikler yapılmıştır. Kontrolgrubunda ise mevcut öğretim yöntem ve teknikleri ile öğretim yapılmıştır. Çalışmagruplarına öğretim sürecinin başında öntest; sonunda ise sontest uygulanmıştır.Araştırmada elde edilen veriler araştırma amaçları doğrultusunda bilgisayar ortamındauygun bir istatistik programı kullanılarak Mann Whitney U ve Wilcoxon İşaretli Sıralar testiile analiz edilmiştir. Yapılan analizler ve değerlendirmeler sonucunda, DHA’nın Ortaokul6. sınıf seviyesinde yabancı dil dersindeki akademik başarıyı olumlu etkilediği sonucunaulaşılmıştır
