Ethical Literacy in Family Education

Öz:
Multidimensional changes in social life necessitate the development of new approaches to make sense of events and situations. At this point, the need for ethical approaches becomes evident. Ethics is a systematic approach that allows to distinguish the truth or falsehood of events and situations. Ethics sheds light on many issues that society and the family, an important component of it, face and need to make sense of in the daily life of individuals. Ethics is a guide that enables individuals to take appropriate actions. Ethical literacy is defined as identifying ethical perspectives and understanding the ethical orientations of situational experiences. Ethical literacy allows individuals to critically analyze, apply and evaluate principles to improve their decision-making capacity. Ethical development of individuals contributes to acquiring the basic skills and qualities necessary to enrich their lives. Ethical development includes the process of understanding and applying norms, values and principles. Individuals must apply ethical practices not only at home, but also in educational institutions, work environments and society in order to lead their development. In this study, it was aimed to examine the role of ethics in social life, the scope of the concept of ethical literacy, ethical literacy education given in the family, and ethical education given to families by family educators.
