Gastrointestinal sistemin karsinoid tümörleri ve karsinoid sendrom

Öz:

Karsinoid tümörler nadir görülen tümörler olup histolojik, endokrinolojik, klinik bulgular ve metastaz potansiyelleri açısından heterojen tümörlerdir. Gastrointestinal sistemin enterokromafin hücrelerinden, enterokromafin benzeri hücrelerinden veya barsak dışı endokrin hücrelerden köken alırlar. Gastrointestinal sistemin karsinoid tümörlerinin %95'inden fazlası apendiks, ince barsak veya rektumdan köken alır. Karsinoid tümörlü hastaların %10-18'inde karsinoid sendrom görülür. Karsinoid sendrom ileri evre hastalığın bulgusu olup genelde karaciğere metastazı olan hastalarda görülür. Bu derlemede karsinoid tümör ve karsinoid sendromun klinik özellikleri ile teşhis ve tedavisi özetlenmektedir.

Carcinoid tumors of the gastrointestinal system and the carcinoid syndrome

Öz:

Carcinoid tumors are rarely seen and heterogenous tumors in respect to histologic, endocrinologic and clinical findings and malignancy potential. They are derived from the enterochromaffin and enterochromaffin-like cells of the gastrointestinal system and endocrine cells outside the intestine. More than 95% of the carcinoid tumors of the gastrointestinal system arise from apendix, small intestine and rectum. Carcinoid syndrome is seen in 10-18% of patients with carcinoid tumor. Carcinoid syndrome is a sign of advanced disease and is generally seen in patients with liver metastasis. In this review, the clinical characteristics and the diagnosis and treatment of carcinoid tumor and carcinoid syndrome is summarized.
