Surgical treatment of vaginal agenesis: Report of five cases and review of the literature

Öz:

Bu makalede, vajinal agenezi nedeniyle cerrahi yöntemlerle tedavi edilen beş vakanın sunumu yapılmıştır. Kliniğimizde vajinal agenezi tanısı alan ve vajinoplasti operasyonu yapılan beş hastanın kayıtları incelenmiştir. Hastalar operasyon tipleri, komplikasyonları ve postoperatif başarı yönünden değerlendirilmiştir. Bütün hastalarda operasyon sonrasında tatminkar seksüel aktivite elde edildi. İki vakada seksüel ilişki sırasında hafif disparoni ve lubrikasyon yetersizliği ana şikayetlerdi. Vajinoplasti operasyonları yüksek başarı ve düşük komplikasyon oranları nedeniyle vaginal agenezi vakalarında önemli bir tedavi şeklidir.

Öz:

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to present the vaginal agenesis cases which were surgically treated. STUDY DESIGN: Between 1995 and 1999, 5 patients who underwent surgical treatment due to vaginal agenesis were analyzed retrospectively. In two of the cases the Abbe-McIndoe operation with full-thickness skin grafts were performed and in three of the cases a space created by blunt dissection for the neovagina left without insertion of any skin grafts. RESULTS: The complication rate was low and in all patients a satisfactory sexual intercourse were achieved. In two of the cases, mild dysparaunia and lack of lubrication were the main complaints during intercourse. CONCLUSION: Vaginoplasty operations have high surgical success rate and low incidence of complications and should be considered in vaginal agenesis cases.
