Contemporary French philosopher Jean-Luc Marion defends the possibility of phenomena beyond the subject's perception and he justifies their existence in a phenomenological framework. Whereas with normal phenomena the intention exceeds the intuition, with this saturated phenomena the opposite occurs and the intention remains poor in front of the intuition. Revelation which forces limits of the appearing belongs to this kind of phenomenon. However Marion doesn't confine saturated phenomena in the theological field; referring to the idea of God in Descartes and the sublime in Kant, he gives various examples of saturated phenomena in the history of philosophy. In this paper we want to study the sublime as saturated phenomenon which is opposed to the idea of a central subject. On this occasion, we will evaluate the relationship of continuity and opposition between Marion and Kant. Furthermore, our reflexion will provide the opportunity to ask to what extent the saturated phenomenon is a philosophical or a theological concept.
