Elde edilen verilerin istatistiksel olarak değerlendirilmesinde 2 faktörlü faktöriyel deneme planı (Two-way Anova) kullanıldı.

Effects of different drinks on color stability of denture base acrylic resins

Öz:
Aim: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the color stability of denture base acrylic resin materials upon exposure to different drinks. Material and Methods: In this study, effects of 6 different drinks (water, coffee, tea, cola, sour cherry juice, and red wine) on color stability of 2 denture base acrylic resin materials (Meliodent, QC-20) were evaluated. Thirty cylindrical specimens (15x2 mm) were prepared for each of acrylic resin materials. The prepared specimens were divided into 6 groups (n=5) for storage in different types ol drinks. Specimens were storied in different drinks for 48 hours at 37°C. Color of all specimen groups were measured before and after exposure with a colorimeter (Minolta CR-300) using CIE L*a*b* relative then color changes (AE*) were calculated. The statistical analysis of the color variation data included a 2-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Then the means were compared by Tukey HSD test (oe=.05) Results: According to 2-way ANOVA, acrylic resin materials, drinks, and their interaction were statistically significant (P<.05). For Meliodent and QC-20 acrylic resins, the lowest color difference values were observed in water groups. In the Meliodent acrylic resin material, the highest color difference was observed in Coffee (3.50) and Tea (3.87) groups which was not significantly different from each other. In the QC-20 acrylic resin material, the highest color difference was observed in Tea group (4.35). When comparing the 2 different acrylic resin materials, the Meliodent demonstrated statistically significantly less color change than the QC-20. Conclusion: In the limitation of this study, Meliodent was found more color stable than the QC-20. Color change values of tea for Meliodent and color change values of coffee and tea for QC-20 were greater than or equal to 3.7. These values were considered visually perceptible as well as clinically unacceptable. However, when 1 of these materials is used, the patient should be informed about the color change that is caused by tea and coffee.
