Sabit ortodonti hastalarında üç tip diş fırçası ile dental plak eliminasyonu

Öz:

Bu çalışmada, sabit ortodontik apareylere sahip olan 30 bayan hastada üç farklı diş fırçasının dental plak eliminasyonu üzerindeki etkinliği incelenmiştir. Bütün hastalarda araştırma başında plak boyaması yapılmış ve modifiye plak indeksi kullanılarak maksiller ve mandibuler ön dişlerin labial yüzeylerindeki plak miktarı belirlenmiştir. 1. Grup önce ortodontik ve sonra arayüz diş fırçası ile dişlerini fırçalamış, 2. Grup sadece ortodontik diş fırçası ve 3. Grup klasik diş fırçası kullanmıştır. Hastalara aynı seansta tekrar plak boyaması yapılmış ve kalan plak miktarı değerlendirilmiştir. Tek-yönlü varyans analizi, gruplar arasında plak eliminasyon etkinliği açısından istatistiksel olarak önemli fark olduğunu göstermiştir. Ortodontik diş fırçasının, arayüz fırçası ile beraber kullanılmasının sabit tedavi gören ortodonti hastalarında plak eliminasyonu açısından sadece ortodontik diş fırçası veya klasik diş fırçası kullanımından daha etkili olduğu saptanmıştır.

Plaque removal by three types of toothbrushes in fixed orthodontic patients

Öz:

This study investigated plaque removal effects of three different types of toothbrushes in 30 female patients having fixed appliances. All patients were disclosed at the start and a modified PI index was used to evaluate the amount of plaque on the labial surfaces of maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth. Group 1 brushed with an orthodontic toothbrush prior to interdental toothbrush. Group 2 brushed only with an orthodontic toothbrush. Group 3 brushed only with a conventional toothbrush. The patient was then redisclosed at the same visit and retained plaque was scored. One-way ANOVA revealed a statistically significant difference in the effectiveness of plaque removal among three groups. It is concluded that orthodontic toothbrush when used with interdental toothbrush is significantly better at removing plaque deposits from fixed appliance patients than either orthodontic toothbrush or conventional toothbrush alone.
